From the time of Adam and Eve, jewelry has been one of the popular forms of body adornment. The oldest found jewelry, beads made from Nassarius shells, dates back 100,000 years. Pieces of jewelry are usually made from gemstones or precious metals (gold and silver), but, as in ancient times, they can be made of ceramic beads, bone, animal teeth, wood, and carved stone. Jewelry is used for adornment of practically every body part, from hair to toes.

It goes without saying that throughout history jewels were used for showing one’s wealth and social position. Only the rich could afford to buy jewelry in the past, and only certain ranks could wear certain types of jewelry in some civilizations. Nowadays, thanks to mass production using latest technologies, jewels are easier to afford.
In addition to this, wearing jewelry is a great way to make a fashion statement, show off one’s looks to advantage and reflect mood and personality. Jewels can tell a lot about their owners without words. They display their taste, status, and world-view.
Every woman dreams of her own collection of jewels, though it can also be true for men. Jewelry can make everybody more beautiful, it looks well on women and men of all ages. Pieces of jewelry are immune to fashion trends, age, or downturns. They can be worn all year round. Jewelry goes well with formal suits, evening gowns, or light summer dresses – the most important is to choose a piece of jewelry to match the attire.
Jewelry can also be symbolic. While wedding rings symbolize the permanent bond of love and marriage, jewelry in the form of a crucifix is a symbol of the faith in Christianity. Jewelry, which is passed down from generation to generation, symbolizes family. Moreover, a piece of jewelry often is sentimental and evokes some kind of emotion or feeling.
